Heb 13:5
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
Oh how we love this verse that says: "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
We all have it memorized and cling to it.
We trust that the Lord is always with us, after all God says so in His word: "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
But what about what's right before that: be content with such things as you have.
We want, and try to obtain as much as we can, yet we forget another important truth in God's word: be content with such things as you have.
"Well, that's not talking about me, because I don't have that much anyway."
Maybe not, but if you are not satisfied with what you have, you are saying in a sense that God has not provided for you sufficiently.
So looking at these two passages together we could think of it as: be content with such things as you have because I will never leave you nor forsake you.
It's ok to ask from God, just don't let that thing you are asking for consume you. Just ask and let Him answer in His time.
Phil 4:11-13 (NLT) 11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to get along happily whether I have much or little. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need.
