Prov 15:8 (NLT)

The LORD hates the sacrifice of the wicked, but he delights in the prayers of the upright.

You can go to a hospital, museum, school, a center for the homeless, or almost anywhere and find plaques with the names of people that gave money to help build that place.
But you know what? They have their reward already.
When you desire to receive praise from man, you have already been rewarded.
When people die they say, "He/she gave so much to help those in need. They must be in heaven."
It's a good thought, but also an untrue thought.
It's not our giving that gets us into heaven. It's our belief in Jesus Christ.
You can't buy God or your way into heaven.
That is what the Solomon is talking about here. How the wicked give and expect to receive praise from man and God for what they are doing.
You see, it's for their own personal gain or recognition.

But God wants us to give out of nothing more then wanting to truly help those in need. Even if nobody ever sees or knows who did it. Actually that's the best way.

  • Matt 6:3-4 (NLT) 3 But when you give to someone, don't tell your left hand what your right hand is doing. 4 Give your gifts in secret, and your Father, who knows all secrets, will reward you.

  • What if someone praises you even though you are truly not looking for it?
Don't worry; the Lord knows your heart.
And don't let satan fool you into thinking that you did do it out of receiving praise from man.
If you truly gave from your heart, then listen to what your heart said, and not what your head is saying.
satan does not want God to delight in you. But that's just to bad for satan, because God does delight in you.
We don't truly understand God's love, all we know is that we are undeserving of it. But God loves us anyway. Not because of how much we give, but because of how much He gave, His Son JESUS!
