with God
1 Cor 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Temptations and trials, don't you just love them? Not!
What do we usually do when they come our way?
We cry out to God "Please Lord, remove this from me." or "Please Lord, make this go away."
But God's answer usually is:
1 Peter 4:12-13 12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
You see, we face trials and temptations so that we can be strengthened in our faith and our walk with the Lord.
How many times did Jesus pray for His temptations or trials to be removed from Him? Only once that I read of.
Matt 26:39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will."
Did you catch the last line here from Jesus' mouth and heart?
nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.
Jesus knew why He had to endure such punishment and disgrace; it was for all of us so that we could be with Him in heaven.
You may not understand what you are going through right now, and that's ok, because sometimes we don't. But in the long run we will find our faith has increased through it, and we have grown closer to the Lord because of it.
So what do we do? Follow Jesus' example and pray His prayer:
"O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will."
It's not always easy going through trials and temptations, but when we endure, the benefits outweigh the suffering.
But this we wont truly understand until we finally see Jesus face to face, Who is the ultimate example of suffering and the rewards that preceded it.
