Ex 20:3

"You shall have no other gods before Me.

The Pope has died as of Saturday 03/APR/05.
But we all know that by now. As you read today's devotional please do not think I am being disrespectful or that I am attacking the Pope, because this is not directed at him at all.
As I was watching the news on the death of the Pope, I would listen to what others had said about him, and one thing that struck me was the following statement, "The pope was the most important person in the world".
This was spoken by a man in his mid 30's or early 40's, and it made me stop and think about his statement and his belief.
It seems so many have put the Pope in the same category as God and Jesus, and this statement even puts him above Jesus in a sense.
But you know what, the Pope was a normal person just like you and me. He was a sinner just like you and me, and without Jesus he would be destined to hell. Just like you and I were.
He was a humble man who had a great responsibility of sharing the gospel with the world, and he chose to accept that responsibility and is thought of as a great man for doing so.
But we all have the same calling on our lives. Sure, we are not all pastors or teachers, or Pope's, but we are all called to share with others about Jesus regardless of who we may be.

So to this man and anyone else who may have put this normal man titled the Pope up on a pedestal or anyone else for that matter. There is only one who is important that was here on this earth, and He is returning. Who is He? Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is:

  • Rev 19:16b OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

  • Don't ever try to put anyone, man, woman or beast in the same category, because:

  • Ex 20:1 & 3 And God spoke all these words, saying: "You shall have no other gods before Me.
