1 Thess 5:9-10

9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

"Should I do this or not?"
"Should I go there or not?"
"Should I watch that or not?"
"Should I say that or not?"

We as Christians always wonder what we should do, and if it is sin or not.
Well, the bible gives us a simple test and it's right here in this devotional.

whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

The word "sleep" does not mean to sleep like in bed, but rather as Christians it means we have died a physical death and are in heaven.
So, when you die and you are in heaven what are you going to be doing and saying?
You wont be talking bad about others or gossiping.
You wont be going into bars or nightclubs or liquor stores.
I don't think there will be TV or cable, no DVD's or movies to rent, but if there where how many movies that are in your local video store do you think would be there?

So simply put, if you would not do it in heaven with Jesus, then you shouldn't be doing it here on the earth.

we should live together with Him

No matter if we are in heaven or on the earth, we ARE living with Jesus.
