Mark 14:9

"Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her."

This is such a cool verse.
But before the woman anointed Jesus with the oil what do you think she was thinking?
Maybe, "I hope everyone sees what I'm about to do because I spent a lot of money on this oil."
Or maybe, "Jesus knows I don't have much and that I am giving Him what I do have, maybe He will accept me now."
No, what about, "If I anoint Jesus with this expensive oil, then God's word says that He will give me back 100 times as much, and then I'll really be living."

But the truth is I don't think this woman had any thoughts other then, "I love Jesus."
Not wanting to receive any recognition or acceptance from Jesus, because Jesus had already accepted her.
No looking for any gain here on this earth.
No, it was a simple act of love, not caring that anyone is around, but isn't that the way it is when you are in love?
Think of newlyweds that are all over each other, hugging and touching and kissing each other all the time. Why, because they just can't seem to get enough of their new spouse. But then how many times do we allow the cares of this world start to take that away from our marriages and soon we are like everyone else in the world.
Even in our relationship with Jesus, we are all on fire for the Lord at the beginning, then as the cares of this world start to creep in, our fire turns to little sparks, just barely burning.

  • Mark 4:19 (NLT) but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for nice things, so no crop is produced.

  • Let's stop it and fall in love with Jesus all over again, not doing it for any gain or recognition and not caring about who sees us in love with Jesus.
Let's just do it because we love Jesus!
