with God
1 Cor 4:5
Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one's praise will come from God.
One of the hardest things I think for us to do is to not receive recognition for doing something.
Sure, we say we are doing it for the Lord, but back in our minds are we also looking for the acceptance of man as well?
I know with the gifts of teaching and music that the Lord has given me, it is hard to keep focused sometimes and not look for acceptance from others.
Sure it does help when you get a word of encouragement for a brother or sister in the Lord, but the danger comes when we depend upon that to drive us rather then the Lord.
I remember watching a well know pastor/evangelist on TV. Now this is no weird guy who runs around yelling or anything, he is a legitimate teacher/pastor of God's word, and I enjoy listening to him and learning from him.
But I was watching one program one time on TV, and I noticed that there were these huge TV screens behind him on stage so other could see him. I thought it was odd, because I thought that the teaching of God's word is to draw attention to the Lord and not man.
But with these huge TV screens and his face plastered on them, was it drawing attention to himself?
Now maybe you don't have your face on a big screen for all to see and maybe you don't even want it, but are you looking for a pat on the back for your service to the Lord, from man?
For me the Lord keeps me humble and let's me know that He is doing the work through me, and I will always do my best to give God all the glory and for God to receive all the attention.
So next time you think the website looks cool, or a teaching or devotional really speaks to you, or if you every happen to listen to any of my music, know that all the glory goes to God, because I could never in a million, billion years accomplish what He has through me.
Then each one's praise will come from God.
But until then, I want to praise God with my life, no matter what others think.
How about you?
