5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week

with God

1 Cor 13:4-7

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Our final week in our daily devotional series on love. For our thirteenth thing we will look at concerning love, is something that love also does.

believes all things

"Wait a minute, you mean I have to believe everything my spouse tells me?
He/she has told me some real whoppers as far as lies goes, and I'm supposed trust someone like that?"

Maybe if we looked at a few other versions it would help our here.

We all lie at one time or another, some just happen to lie more then others. But real loves does not believe in these lies, but rather believes in the truth, and that the truth will stop the lies. In the NLT it says never loses faith meaning that your faith is not in the person as much as it is in the truth that changes a person.
Love is a matter of trust in a person, sure they may have messed up in the past, but are you basing your future on the past?
If so, then shouldn't God also do the same since He is the ultimate expression of love? Shouldn't God say to you that you have done this and that in the past and I can't trust you ever again? Yet God is NOT like that at all, because He trusts us and believes in us.

Now it doesn't mean that we allow others to walk all over us out of love, because that is not what is being said here. Rather true love believes that God can change a person.
I look at my life just ten years ago and wonder how anyone could love someone like that. Yet God knew that I would change, and loved me because He believed in me to change. I'm far from perfect; But God is also far from being done changing me as well.

The Living bible says: You will always believe in him

I don't consider myself to be a great teacher of the bible nor a great musician, Yet God believes in me and He encourages me to keep on keeping on, so I press forward because of His encouragement.

  • Phil 3:12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

  • Has your spouse or friend had problems from the past?
Have you encouraged him or her to press on, or do you belittle them with sarcastic remarks?

What if God called you a loser, or said that you were worthless, or wouldn't amount to anything, how would you feel?
Here is another verse to keep in mind in how we show our love to others.

  • Eph 5:29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

  • How would you want to be treated?
Wouldn't you want others to trust you?
If so, then do the same for others, as you would have them do to you.

  • Luke 6:31 & 36 31 "And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. 36 "Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.
