1 John 4:1-3 (NLT)

1 Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. 2 This is the way to find out if they have the Spirit of God: If a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ became a human being, that person has the Spirit of God. 3 If a prophet does not acknowledge Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist. You have heard that he is going to come into the world, and he is already here.


How many people do you know that say that they are Christians?
A lot of people do believe that they are Christians. And some of the reasons they give for believing this are:

  • I was baptized as a baby.

  • I go to church.

  • My mother and father where Christians.

  • I believe there is a god.

  • I'm a good person.

  • I give to a charity or the church.


    • We could go on and on with all the reasons people believe they are Christians.
    But you know what, the bible says that even the demons believe and tremble.

  • James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble!


    • What really tells if a person is a Christian or not is by their lifestyle.
    Do they seem any different then the rest who you know are not Christians?
    Do they read the bible, go to church, pray daily?
    Most important, Can they say that Jesus is Lord of their life?

    That is something even Christians don't really say. If you ask some, they will say, "I know God."
    Yes you do, but what about Jesus?
    The bible says,

  • Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.


    • Notice it says, "If you confess Jesus" not just the acknowledgment of a god. But you must be able to say that "Jesus is your Lord" and that "God raised Him from the dead".

    Sounds so simple for us to say, but it's not that simple for those who profess to be Christians and are not.
    Sure they will say that they believe in Jesus, but once again the demons do too. But they can't say that He is Lord!

    Can you?

    So really check out those who say they are Christians, they may give some of the reasons we mentioned or others you have heard. But if they can't say that Jesus is Lord, then they are not Christians. And if not they will go to hell when they die, unless you show them the right way, which is JESUS!!!
