1 John 3:14-15
14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death. 15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
"I love him (or her) to death."
A common phrase we have all used. But the question for you today is, how true is this statement?
You say you are in love with someone and that you would do anything for him or her. Would you keep them from going to hell?
"Well, sure because we are both Christians, we aren't going to hell."
I pray that you aren't. But the next question you don't have to answer me on, but rather you must answer to God on. Are you living together or having a sexual relationship with that other person outside of marriage?
"Well, yes we are but we need the money and can't afford to live in separate homes."
Nice try, but what about this excuse?
"God knows I love him (or her) and God knows we will someday get married, so what's the big deal?"
The big deal is that you are being disobedient to God. In His word it clearly states:
1 Cor 6:9-11 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
I don't read where it says that neither fornicators except for you and your boyfriend (or girlfriend) will inherit the kingdom of God.
So if that's the case and you love this person that much, you are loving him or her to death, literally.
1 Cor 13:4-7 4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Show me where it says that love is being disobedient to God's word and being in love allows you to have sex outside of marriage.
So today I urge you to stop loving that other person to death, and repent of what you are doing, and love him or her to life, Life in Jesus Christ!
