John 10:41-42
41 Then many came to Him and said, "John performed no sign, but all the things that John spoke about this Man were true." 42 And many believed in Him there.
Many in the world are seeking after signs before they will believe in something or someone.
The world will go to sideshows looking for healings, magic tricks, miracles, along with signs and wonders. Once they find them, then they will believe and follow after the one doing them.
Even we as Christians almost try to sell Jesus with signs and wonders. We tell them if you come to Jesus all your problems will go away, or you can have all kinds of money if you just give to this or that ministry. We say that they can be healed immediately of any sickness they may have. We offer them something of this world for just talking to us or even visiting our churches.
But with all this in mind, it's interesting that the bible says: "John performed no sign, but all the things that John spoke about this Man were true."
The results of John telling others about Jesus were: And many believed in Him there.
No offer of free things, no offer of financial freedom, not even an offer of immediate healing, no all John offered was forgiveness of sin through Jesus Christ.
Sure we can be healed if the Lord so chooses to do so. But what if the Lord does not want to heal that person at this point in time, will they think that God is a liar because you offered then something the Lord was not offering to them at that time?
What if they still lose their home because you offered then financial freedom in Jesus Christ? Will they now turn on Jesus because you gave them a false hope?
All we can do is tell them what Jesus is offering, which is:
John 10:28 "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
Jesus is offering eternal life to those who ask, and you should tell everyone you know, and even those you don't know about this. If they choose to receive it, you can trust that they will receive it because Jesus said so.
At my job, I train new people in the department I work in, which deal with the customers. One thing I stress is that if you can't back it up in writing, then don't say it, because as a company representative you are speaking for the company.
As representatives of the kingdom of God we should take the same attitude. If we can't back it up in writing (God's word) we shouldn't be offering to others.
Just don't offer them something Jesus never said, and don't twist Jesus' words to make them think they are getting things of this world because Jesus also said:
John 16:33 "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
Paul also said:
Eph 5:5 (NLT) You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is really an idolater who worships the things of this world.
If you are looking to things of this world to make you happy, you should know by now that your search is in vain. So if the things of this world wont make you happy, why offer it to others?
Just stick to what the bible says and offer them eternal life in Jesus Christ, which should make anyone happier then any thing this world has to offer.
