John 4:41-42
41 And many more believed because of His own word. 42 Then they said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."
We all know of the story here of Jesus and the woman at the well.
Jesus was passing through Samaria when He met this woman at the well. As Jesus was talking to her, He reveled that He was the Christ or Messiah.
John 4:25-26 25 The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things." 26 Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."
So the woman runs and tells everyone in the city about Jesus. They in turn go out to meet Jesus because of the woman's testimony. Then after Jesus stayed a few days there in Samaria, they say these words to her that are in today's devotional verse.
41 And many more believed because of His own word. 42 Then they said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."
Now here is a thought, and NOT a true story, but just a thought. What if this woman who went and told everyone about Jesus had turn from the faith or belief in Jesus? Would everyone else do the same?
Possibly at first, but they soon came to each have their own relationship with Jesus based upon His words and no longer her words.
Even today, if a pastor or teacher falls away from the faith, how many does he take with him?
I suppose it would be only those who were more interested in his words and what he said instead of the words of Jesus.
What about you? Do you know someone who you respected as a Christian who has fallen away from the faith?
Will you do the same because they did?
If so, who is your faith really in, that person or Jesus?
"Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."
Base your faith and walk with the Lord on what Jesus says, not me or anyone else.
