5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week
with God
Luke 13:13-14
13 And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. 14 But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, "There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day."
As I was reading the bible today, and came across these verses about how Jesus healed a woman, and what the ruler of the synagogue had said.
"There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day."
My first thought was, "I wonder how many people this guy healed, or how many actually came to the synagogue and were healed?"
Probably none, and that may have been why this ruler was so upset, because Jesus was able to do something that he may have wanted to do, but was unable to.
So instead of giving God the glory for what had happened, he lashed out at the people and tried to even prevent them from coming this day to be healed by Jesus.
But I wonder how many times we or others do this same thing even today?
Think of these young Christian bands with their loud music, and drum pounding, and guitars screeching out. We look at these young people, and the music that they play, and the way they dress, and wonder, "How could a Christian ever act like that?"
But you know what, hundreds, if not thousands of kids and even adults are coming to Christ because of them and their love for the Lord and the people.
So who are we to look down on those who are bringing others to Christ?
Mark 9:38 Now John answered Him, saying, "Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us."
So next time you may want to condemn someone for the way they are serving the Lord, stop and ask, is it biblical? Is God receiving the glory? Are they doing it for money or to further the kingdom of God?
Mark 9:39-41 39 But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. 40 "For he who is not against us is on our side. 41 "For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.
One final note, I am 44 years old, and I still listen to these new young Christian bands, I buy their CD's and I like them too!
