Phil 2:13 (NLT)
For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him.
Sin is a horrible thing that we all do. Even though we don't want to, we do it anyway.
Romans 7:18-20 (NLT) 18 I know I am rotten through and through so far as my old sinful nature is concerned. No matter which way I turn, I can't make myself do right. I want to, but I can't. 19 When I want to do good, I don't. And when I try not to do wrong, I do it anyway. 20 But if I am doing what I don't want to do, I am not really the one doing it; the sin within me is doing it.
Even Paul knew this and he wrote one third of the New Testament.
But even a great man like Paul had trouble with sin. It's not that he wanted to sin, just that his old self was still urging him to sin.
We are all human and not God and we all sin. As Christians we do not do it willfully, but with much anguish especially after we have committed the sin.
But we do have an advocate.
Heb 9:24 (NLT) For Christ has entered into heaven itself to appear now before God as our Advocate. He did not go into the earthly place of worship, for that was merely a copy of the real Temple in heaven.
Another word for advocate would mean "on our behalf". Basically when we sin Jesus appears before the throne of God on our behalf telling God that He died for that sin you just committed.
Now this doesn't give us the OK to sin. But the reassurance that even if we do fall into sin, Jesus will always be there for us.
Romans 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
So don't let Satan rob you of your joy in the Lord when you fall into sin. Because God still loves you, and will forgive you.
All you have to do is ask!
