5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week

with God

1 Thess 4:17-18 (NLT)

17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. 18 So comfort and encourage each other with these words.

Do you remember yesterdays devotional and what the last words were?

If you don't remember don't worry about it, but it was, "See you there!"
After I wrote that devotional, that same night as I was thinking about what I had written, I thought, "What if we were raptured before I couldn't do the next days devotional? People would read these last words of mine and know where we went."
Because the words meant "I'll see you in heaven." And they would know by reading this that we were taken by the Lord to heaven.

Then I started to think about last words that we say to people. Maybe words of anger because of a stupid argument. Or a word just totally unloving cutting into someone's heart. Then there are words of love or encouragement to others.
Whatever your last words are to someone, wouldn't it be a great witness if you always left on a good note or words that are uplifting.
I would hate to have to go to heaven and have someone say, "I'll never be a Christian, he said such horrible things to me that I would never want to be like one of them."

Do you know what Jesus' last words were before He ascended into heaven?

  • Acts 1:8-9 8 "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." 9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

  • Jesus told them before that He would not leave them comfortless but would send another Helper, who is the Holy Spirit. And here Jesus is saying that same thing, reminding them of that promise, but not only that but to also be busy doing with the power of the Holy Spirit guiding them.

Jesus words were words of comfort, because they knew they would not be alone when He was gone.

This week listen to yourself and the last things you say to people. You may want to go back and say something else because you never know; they could be the last words they hear from your lips.
