5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week

with God

Mark 4:35-39

35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side." 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" 39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

Can you just picture the scene here?
Jesus tells His disciples that they need to cross over to the other side. So they are obedient to Jesus, and during their obedience, a storm comes along causing the wind to blow fiercely, with huge waves engulfing the little boat.
The disciples are freaking out at this point and cry out to Jesus Who was asleep on a pillow.
And, if you have read the entire devotional verses then you know that Jesus stopped the wind and the waves.
So tell me, do you ever feel like God is asleep?
Maybe you are doing just what God told you to do. But in the middle of doing this, a huge trial comes your way and you wonder where God is, because you are doing just what He asked you to do.
Jesus was tired and that's why He was asleep, but the other reason Jesus was asleep was because He wasn't worried.
Think about it, the disciples were probably tired as well, but they saw the storm on the horizon and were worried. Then as soon as it hit, they went berserk.
Jesus saw the same storm that the disciples saw; yet He wasn't worried, and He was able to sleep.
Do you toss and turn in bed worrying about things?
Jesus' life was in the Father's hands, so is yours.
If Jesus trusted God, shouldn't you as well!

Have a great nights sleep tonight and know that:

  • John 5:17 But Jesus answered them, "My Father has been working until now, and I have been working."

  • God's not worried about your situation and God is not sleeping, in fact He may be working on it as you sleep.
