5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week

with God

Phil 1:12-14 (NLT)

12 And I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News. 13 For everyone here, including all the soldiers in the palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. 14 And because of my imprisonment, many of the Christians here have gained confidence and become more bold in telling others about Christ.

Have you been attacked lately? That may sound like a dumb question because it seems we as Christians are always attacked throughout the day.
But the question really should be. How do you handle these attacks?
I'm not talking about in the quietness of your prayer closet when you are alone with God, but rather when others are around and are watching you.

Paul here was severely attacked to the point of being in prison. Paul says, "that's OK because everyone knows that I am a believer in Jesus Christ, even the guard I'm chained to knows it".

Sometimes we are more arrogant then a witness for Christ.
We seem to put up our noses at non-believers like we are better then them. Or we shove Jesus down their throat like a bad medicine.

That is not what Paul did; he even gives us an example on how to be a witness without being a bother to others.

  • 1 Cor 9:19-23 (NLT) 19 This means I am not bound to obey people just because they pay me, yet I have become a servant of everyone so that I can bring them to Christ. 20 When I am with the Jews, I become one of them so that I can bring them to Christ. When I am with those who follow the Jewish laws, I do the same, even though I am not subject to the law, so that I can bring them to Christ. 21 When I am with the Gentiles who do not have the Jewish law, I fit in with them as much as I can. In this way, I gain their confidence and bring them to Christ. But I do not discard the law of God; I obey the law of Christ.
22 When I am with those who are oppressed, I share their oppression so that I might bring them to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone so that I might bring them to Christ. 23 I do all this to spread the Good News, and in doing so I enjoy its blessings.

  • Paul did not sin in what he was doing and he even says that in verse 21 "But I do not discard the law of God; I obey the law of Christ."

We should be a witness that is pleasing and not harsh.
You can't say that Jesus was harsh, always honest but not harsh.
And how was this accomplished? One simple word, LOVE!

  • 1 Cor 13:3 (NLT) If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn't love others, I would be of no value whatsoever.

  • So when you are going through attacks throughout the day, don't let others see you throwing a fit or running around saying, "I need to go pray". Just quietly and gently pray and be strong in the Lord, and let others see not only your love for the Lord, but also His love for you!
