James 4:1-2
1 Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.
I can so relate to today's devotional verses, because I personally lived them even today.
My wife did something that made me a little upset. In the morning, she knew I was angry and it even affected my prayer time in the morning. Then all of a sudden I heard the Holy Spirit speaking to me these verses.
If you think about it, why do we get angry?
The answer, because we do not get our own way, and when we do not, we are mad at the person who did not cater to our needs.
Think about the last time you got angry with someone, and why you did? Wasn't it really because you didn't get your own way? Or they did something in a way that you wouldn't do or don't like?
We are so spoiled that we get angry at any little thing that doesn't go our way, we even get mad at God because He doesn't do things our way. Do we know better then God? We act like it when we get angry with God for not doing things our way.
One other thing to think about concerning anger is that Jesus did, but He did NOT sin.
Even the bible says: "Be angry, and do not sin": Eph 4:26
So how do we do this?
Think about when Jesus got angry, why did He get angry?
Luke 19:45-46 45 Then He went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it, 46 saying to them, "It is written, 'My house is a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of thieves.' "
Simply put, the people and religious leaders were perverting God's law and the Father's house by cheating and stealing from the people who wanted to worship and be obedient to God. This made Jesus angry.
So to apply this to us, next time you get angry with someone, check your bible and see if they are going against God's word, or just not doing something the way that you want them to.
Sometimes it's just because we don't ask or tell the person what we want.
Yet you do not have because you do not ask.
If I had just made my request more clear to my wife, I would not have gotten angry.
But then again, if I wasn't thinking of myself, I would not have gotten angry either.
Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have.
