2 Peter 1:20-21
20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
"I have read the book, and it is much better then the movie."
How many times have we heard this or even said it ourselves?
So many great books out there and people try their best to put them into movies, but are unable to catch the real passion behind the book.
You will also notice I used the word "Passion" and you know where I am going with this devotional. Yesterday was the first day of the showing of the movie "The Passion of the Christ". I have had the flu all week and have not been able to go see the movie yet, so at this point I cannot comment on the movie. However, just as you have, I also have heard many things about the movie, which we wont get into (Once again I can't comment on it until I have seen it).
But even watching the news, many people are shocked at the horrible beatings that Jesus went through. They say this is not a feel good movie and you actually leave exhausted because it is two hours of intense beating.
As I watched these people talk about it, both believers and non-believers, I felt the Holy Spirit prompting me to write today's devotional.
The reason everyone is so shocked is the simple reason of us as believers watering down the word of God. We all know Jesus was beaten and crucified, but we try not to think about just how severe it really was. We show them movies about Jesus with a few trickles of blood coming down his face, with a crown of thorns on His head and His hair brushed just right so that He doesn't look to bad up there on the cross.
People see worse beating then that on the daily news, so why should they turn to Jesus if He didn't go through anything worse then everyday people do?
We are currently studying the book of John in our weekly bible study here at the website, and have started getting into the crucifixion of Jesus. I would encourage you to read the studies each week and read for yourself what really happened. Then you can share the truth from God's word when people ask or are talking about the movie.
I am also writing a book based upon the blind man in John chapter 9, which will get into very graphic detail of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ as seen through the eyes of a blind man, or formerly blind I should say. Pray for me as I write this.
But I would encourage all of you to go see the movie, and take a non-believer with you. But I would also encourage you to study God's word so you can quote the Book and not the movie when you talk to people about it.

I have read the book several times, and I know it is better then any movie!
