Psalms 81:15

The haters of the LORD would pretend submission to Him,
But their fate would endure forever.

I know a guy who for several years pretended to be a Christian. He went to home groups and church, and he learned all the right phrases to say. On the outside, he appeared to be a Christian, but inside he was a phony.
I also know another guy who was dating a girl and he told her that he was a Christian just so that he could have sex with her.
In both cases these men pretended to be Christians just for their own personal gain. The first wanted friends and people to hang out with that would not take advantage of him. What better place to find it then in a group of Christians.
The second was more concerned with his fleshly desires and did not care about his girlfriend at the time.
But I am happy to say; in both cases, these men are now Christians and the guy did marry his girlfriend.

I say this because we need to be cautious not only of those around us, but even stop and look at our own lives. Sure, you may have prayed a prayer, but does your life really reflect a Christ likeness, or are you still the same way you used to be with no change at all? Where you just caught up in the emotion of the moment when you prayed, or has your life changed and you desire to be more and more like Jesus everyday?
You can be like the first guy and know all the right Christian things to say, go to church each Sunday and even a home bible study each week. However, when you are away from these people, are you that same as when you are around them, or do you go back to your old ways when others cannot see you?

Today's devotional verse is word of warning to those who pretend to be a Christian for whatever reason.

The haters of the LORD would pretend submission to Him,
But their fate would endure forever.

But also in this chapter in Psalms, it is a call to repentance.

  • Psalms 81:13 "Oh, that My people would listen to Me,
That Israel would walk in My ways!

  • So today the choice is yours, will you heed the warning Oh, that My people would listen to Me, or suffer the consequences But their fate would endure forever.

God has given you a choice. So, which will it be?
