Psalms 49:16-17

16 Do not be afraid when one becomes rich,
When the glory of his house is increased;
17 For when he dies he shall carry nothing away;
His glory shall not descend after him.

"The grass is always greener on the other side."
"Be like the Joneses"
"Get ahead in life and you will be happy and content."
"Get out of life all that you can" i>

All sayings and different things we have all heard before.
However, the ones who made these up must have never read today's devotional verses.
We are trained by the world and even our families that the way to true happiness is have the best you can and work hard to get it.
We watch our neighbors and see the things that they have and wonder why God does not bless us, but will bless non-believers.
However, God does have an answer for us to this question.

Do not be afraid when one becomes rich,
When the glory of his house is increased;

God does not love them or care more about them then us, just because they seem to have more, and we find the rest of the answer in the next verse.

For when he dies he shall carry nothing away;
His glory shall not descend after him.

No matter how much your neighbor has or how hard he or she has worked for it, in the end, they will never see it again.
Think about that for a moment. We work hard to get the best homes, cars, computers, clothes, etc but after we are gone to heaven, we will never see any of these things again, nor will we desire them.
So why do we spend so much time and effort to have them?
Because we believe the lie that, we need it. When we do, we are taking our eyes off the real reason we are here, and that is to minister to others and glorify the Lord with our lives.

So next time you think that you really need something.
Before you go out and spend your hard earned money to buy it.
Ask the Lord if you really need it.
Then think about the fact that in 50 or so years, when you are gone from the earth that you will never, ever see it again.
Makes you wonder if you really need it, doesn't it!
