Matt 13:22
"Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
Christmas time, for us it should be a happy time. A time of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. A time to spend with your family and loved ones, giving to one another.
At least it's supposed to be. For me, I was looking at all our bills, our checking account with nothing in it, and payday seeming to far away.
Wondering how I was going to give to my family, my children and my wife and all the others I care about?
I started to get really depressed, because I work hard but seem to have nothing, living from paycheck to paycheck.
I didn't know what to do and during this time of depression the Lord brought today's verse back to my memory.
"Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
Why am I as a Christian allowing the cares of this world get me down?
I could sit here in a slump doing nothing or get back on track serving the Lord.
Well, I am writing this so obviously I'm back on track.
But what about you? Are the cares of Christmas and money getting you down?
Maybe it's not money but other things.
Maybe you marriage isn't what you want it to be.
Maybe you don't like your job.
Maybe you are having car problems.
It could be problems with a friend or even a family member.
What is so terrible that it's getting you down?
What is so terrible that it has caused you to become unfruitful?
What is so bad that the Lord who created the heavens and the earth can't handle?
Give it to the Lord right now; ask Him to take it and to help you get back on track in your Christian walk.
Remember Christmas day?
Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
No room for Jesus to be born in.
No crib to lay Him in.
No clean water to clean Him or new clothes to dress Him up in.
Was God depressed? I don't think so!
