5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week
with God
2 Cor 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Two exciting things about today's devotional.
First, this is the 500th devotional here on this website. I think that's cool and pray for hundreds of thousands more if the Lord tarries.
Second is that we just moved into a house a few weeks ago (It was totally from the Lord and a true blessing).
But even though we moved two or three weeks ago, we still have boxes that are unpacked.
So what do we do with them? That's right, we stick them in a closet or in the garage (which we never had before).
When we all move, we plan on going through our stuff and getting rid of that old junk we don't really use anymore. But they always seem to end up in a box or storage container. We always say that some day we will get around to them, but they just sit there gathering dust and cobwebs.
When we come to Christ we also had old junk that we need to get rid of. As today's verse says old things have passed away.
But we seem to hold on to some things, and hide them away in a box in the attic of our minds, or only pull them out when others aren't looking.
Unlike moving to a new house, when we come to Jesus Christ, we still have these same old houses (bodies). I used to wear glasses before I came to Christ and after I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I still wore glasses.
But this verse is not talking about changing your physical bodies, but our minds and hearts spiritually.
But we still hold on to sins of the past and even hide away some of the paraphernalia from our past, just incase we need it. The only time you would need it is if you plan on walking away from the Lord. We should never make plans or provisions for this.
So this week do a little house cleaning, not of your physical house, but your spiritual house. What old things from your past are you holding on to?
Ask the Lord to show you and to help you get rid of them.
You will find you will have more room for spiritual things when you do, and less room for old junk (sins) you really don't need.
