with God
Gen 5:24
And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
We all love the Lord and desire to be pleasing to Him.
But could you imagine being so pleasing to God that He would just take you right to heaven without you even dieing?
That's what happened in today's devotional verse.
Enoch loved God so much that he lived for the Lord and not himself.
Enoch was also married and had children.
Gen 5:22 After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters.
We know Methuselah as the oldest man in the bible who lived to be 969 years old.
Enoch was so pleasing to God that his family saw it and followed in his footsteps.
Gen 5:25 & 30 25 Methuselah lived one hundred and eighty-seven years, and begot Lamech. 30 After he begot Noah, Lamech lived five hundred and ninety-five years, and had sons and daughters.
So Enoch had a son named Methuselah, who had a son named Lamech, who had a son named Noah, and what does the bible say about Noah?
Gen 6:9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.
Noah learned this from his father, who learned it from his father, who learned it from his father, Enoch, who pleased the Lord.
You see, when we walk with the Lord as Enoch and his decedents did, we start to decrease and the Lord increases. Even John the Baptist said this in the New Testament.
John 3:30 "He must increase, but I must decrease.
If we really want our children to follow the Lord, then we need to stop showing them us and start showing them the Lord in our lives. We do this by being pleasing to the Lord, seeking to please Him and not ourselves.
So next time one of your kids mess up, stop and take a look at yourself and ask yourself, "Am I pleasing to the Lord and does my children see this?"
Let's start living like Enoch:
Gen 5:24a (NLT) He enjoyed a close relationship with God throughout his life.
So maybe our children will be like Noah:
Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.
