5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week
with God
2 Tim 3:1-5 (NLT)
1 You should also know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. 3 They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control; they will be cruel and have no interest in what is good. 4 They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. 5 They will act as if they are religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. You must stay away from people like that.
A few things I have notices over the last few days on TV.
A famous basketball player accused of rape and said he didn't rape this woman and that he just committed adultery.
Parents on a popular TV show on one of the big networks, having a teenage son who is not married, and he got some girl pregnant and his parents are poking fun at him (and this was just the commercial for the show, which I didn't watch).
Another popular TV show about a single man trying to find a woman amongst 20 women who are basically contestants, almost like a game show. But the commercial for this show shows the man and one of the women in the shower together making out passionately. (Yes this is regular TV).
Another new show is about a man and woman who got married with one of their parents being gay and that is suppose to be the funny thing about the show.
I could go on and on but I wont because I think you get the basic idea, and I'm sure you have seen these things and even more of it.
I look at these things and think back to over two years ago to 9/11 and how it seemed that the nation was looking to God for help. Sure many where saved through what happened on that day, as many ran to the churches and found Jesus.
But I read verse 5 of today's devotional verses and can only think it is so true for today.
They will act as if they are religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly.
Many people acted religious around that time, but as the dust settled we could see that many went back to their old ways, and just by watching commercials for TV shows and the news it seems things have gotten worse.
Read verses 1-5 again then take heed to Paul's warning to Timothy at the end of verse 5.
You must stay away from people like that.
It doesn't mean we don't witness to them, but rather that we do not partake in their practices of sins, nor condone it by watching their shows on TV, and throw away our posters of a basketball player who's not a rapist, just an adulterer.
He thinks that's ok, do you?
I wonder what God thinks about it?
Lev 20:10 'The man who commits adultery with another man's wife, he who commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall surely be put to death.
