with God

2 Chron 20:20-22 (NLT)

20 Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, "Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed." 21 After consulting the leaders of the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the LORD and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang:

"Give thanks to the LORD;
his faithful love endures forever!"

22 At the moment they began to sing and give praise, the LORD caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves.

Music is such a wonderful thing, but it can also be a bad thing to.

I have been listening to Christian music of all kinds for many years. But before that I would listen to music on the radio or buy the CD's of non-Christian music.

Now if you think about it, when you are going through trials and temptation, would you rather listen to and sing to music that praises God, or would you rather listen to music that feeds your flesh with the things of the world, like sex, drugs, adultery, lust, partying…
We sit there and sing songs that say, "I want to take you home and…" and then turn around and ask God, "Why am I going through so many trials?"

  • Rev 3:15-16 15 "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 "So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

  • Matt 6:24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

  • When you mix music of the world with worship of God you are serving two masters.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about Christian music with today's beat or feel. I'm talking about music that glorifies the sins that Jesus died for.

We are to separate ourselves from the world.

  • 2 Cor 6:17-18 17 Therefore "Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you." 18 "I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty."

  • I know it's hard to separate yourself from the cool sounding songs of today, but let me propose this to you.

Go to your local Christian book store and listen to some of the Christian music that has the same type of sound you are listening to now, be it from Country to Heavy Metal, Rock to Rap, whatever your taste may be.
Now buy a couple of CD's and only listen to them for the next week and no worldly music. Turn off the radio and don't watch MTV.
Now when you try to go back after the end of the week and listen to your old music. You will hear a difference in the music, so much that you will not want to listen to worldly music again.

Then you will serve one Master, our God and Father, Our Lord and Savior and Redeemer, the One who is worthy of ALL PRAISE!

Don't waist your voice singing of sin, but put it to good use and use it to Glorify GOD!
