with God

1 Sam 20:26

Nevertheless Saul did not say anything that day, for he thought, "Something has happened to him; he is unclean, surely he is unclean."

In today's devotional verse, David was hiding from Saul to find out if he was really angry with him and wanted to kill him. David spoke to Saul's son, Jonathan who was his best friend, and they had a way to determine if Saul really wanted to kill David.
Saul didn't know what was going on, and at this feast, David didn't show up. So Saul assumed that David had sinned and that was why he didn't show up for the feast.
Saul was quick to judge without even knowing the facts.

But aren't we the same way sometimes. We are quick to judge without even knowing the truth. We take it on someone else's word and base our opinion on hearsay instead of the truth.
There are a lot of people who claim that the bible has to many flaws or inconsistencies, therefore they refuse to believe the bible. But the thing is that they have never read the bible and they are basing this on what others have said.
As Christians we know these are all false accusations and the word of God is without errors.
But some are ready to die and go to hell based upon what someone has said about the bible and not checking it out for themselves.

But how many times have we judged others based upon what someone has said and condemned others to hell in our own minds without really checking things out.

Here in California a lot of the big chain grocery stores are on strike. What if someone saw me walk into a liquor store and walk out with a paper bag in my hands? Would they assume I was buying alcohol, or would they check it out and find out that I wouldn't cross the picket line and was buying milk for my children?

See how we can so easily judge incorrectly!

They even judge Jesus and John the Baptist wrongly.

  • Luke 7:33-35 33 "For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.' 34 "The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' 35 "But wisdom is justified by all her children."

  • So check things out for yourself, and if someone starts to spread rumors about someone, ask them to have that person be there to hear what they are saying. If it's a lie it will shut them up quickly!
