with God

1 Sam 5:1-4

1 Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. 2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the temple of Dagon and set it by Dagon. 3 And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and set it in its place again. 4 And when they arose early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. The head of Dagon and both the palms of its hands were broken off on the threshold; only Dagon's torso was left of it.

Today's devotional verses are really kind of funny if you think about it.
Here are the Philistines with their false god, and they bring in the ark of God into this false god's temple and set it next to their god.
The next morning they wake up and go to their temple and there is their god on its face before the TRUE GOD.
But they don't get it and they pick up their god and leave again.
The next morning, not only is their god on its face, but both its head and hands where broken off.
Could they not get it the first time? After all who wants a god that they have to pick up when it falls.
On the other hand, our God picks us up when we fall.
God even showed them by breaking off the head that it has no mind and cannot think for itself or hands that it can do anything. It was dependant on mans thoughts and hands to even be moved.

But how many times do we worship these same type of gods, like money or possessions that have no mind of it's own, nor hands that it can help us when we fall.
When we put or money and possessions next to the TRUE GOD of heaven and earth we find this out.
But then we go right back to depending on them again and again.
Who really wants a god that you have to put in your back pocket, or purse or lock up in a bank to protect it from others?
I don't, what about you?
