with God

Matt 1:6

and Jesse begot David the king.

David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah.

If you are like me, you have done some really stupid things in your past that you are ashamed of. Some that downright hurt others, and you may even wonder how you made it through some of the things you did.
Sometimes we have trouble getting past these past sins and wonder what good could ever come out of what we did?

I want you to notice the second sentence of today's verse.

David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah.

The verses here in Matthew tell of the genealogy of Jesus, starting with Abraham and going to Joseph the husband of Mary.
But right in the middle of this genealogy is today's verse.
So right in the middle of all these guys, king David has relations with Uriah's wife Bathsheba and when she got pregnant king David ended up having Uriah murdered.
Afterwards Bathsheba did have the child and the child soon died, it was part of the punishment that king David had to pay for what he did.
But afterward when king David and Bathsheba were married they had another son who we all know as Solomon.
But through this whole ordeal God was glorified because it tells of God's grace, as king David and Solomon were a part of the genealogy of Jesus.

So what does this have to do with us today?
Like me, you have messed up and done some real stupid things, or in simple terms, we sinned big time.
Now this does not give us the right to sin, but we see the grace of God, and if God can forgive king David for adultery and murder and show him grace, God will do the same for you!

One more note, king David never did this again and Bathsheba is never called the wife of king David but rather the wife of Uriah!
So when we are forgiven, we shouldn't go back and do it again, but something it will stay with us for the rest of our lives, even though we are forgiven.
I am forgiven for my divorce over twenty years ago, but I still have to live with it for the rest of my life.
