Heb 5:14
But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
One of my favorite foods is a hamburger.
Just give me a nice quarter pound of beef, cheese, lettuce, pickles, tomato, grilled onions (always better grilled), mayo, mustard, and catsup. Maybe some avocado and bacon would be nice too.
There is almost nothing better then a nice juicy hamburger that's cooked on the barbeque. When it's cooked that way, you don't even need all that other stuff, just the buns and barbequed meat.
It's kind of the same way with teaching God's word.
Whenever you hear someone speaking or teaching God's word, like at church, here at this website, in a home group or wherever and anything that is spoken or taught other then God's actual word it's like all the extras in a hamburger.
The thing is, when all that other stuff or words are taken away, what are you left with? God's word, and just like my example of a juicy barbequed hamburger, all that other stuff is not really needed, because when it comes to God's word, His word is the meat, and everything else is just extra stuff.
The question is, how much meat are you getting in church or a bible study or even here?
I try very hard to make sure I have a lot of scripture in my studies, because when it gets down to it, I want others to have the meat of God's word and not my extra stuff.
Think about this next time you are in church or at a bible study. If you take away all those extra words, how much of God's word is actually spoken?
Now there is nothing wrong with the extra stuff, because done right, it will accentuate the hamburger, but too much extra stuff spoils the hamburger.
