1 Cor 7:5-6 (NLT)

5 So do not deprive each other of sexual relations. The only exception to this rule would be the agreement of both husband and wife to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time, so they can give themselves more completely to prayer. Afterward they should come together again so that Satan won't be able to tempt them because of their lack of self-control. 6 This is only my suggestion. It's not meant to be an absolute rule.


Today we are going to talk about something that is not taught a lot in churches, and that is sex.
Now there is nothing wrong with sex, in fact if you think about it, God is the one who invented it during creation.

  • Gen 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth."


    • There is only one way God intend for people to multiply and that is through sex.
    But also remember that sex is for the marriage ONLY.

    But one problem is that wives, and husbands, will use sex as a tool or a manipulation to get something from the other person.
    They will say if you don't do this or that then you aren't getting any tonight.
    When you do not allow you husband or wife that sexual relationship then you can cause him or her to sin.

    Afterward they should come together again so that Satan won't be able to tempt them because of their lack of self-control.

    Now I know you guys out there are saying, "Preach it Steve".
    But there is also another side to this coin.

  • Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,


    • We tend to forget this and use 1 Cor 7:5 as a means to get what we want.
    But as we just read Eph 5:25, it is telling us that we as men are not to force our wives into doing something that they don't really want to do, and that's including sex. This also goes both ways.

    So what's the answer?
    Enjoy one another as God had intended, and if one of you has a real headache, then be compassionate towards that person and don't make a big deal out of it.

  • Eph 5:22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.


    • And husbands,

  • Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,


    • And if you are single then,

  • Psalms 27:14 Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!
