Eph 6:13-17

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

We are looking at the Armor of God. Each day we are looking at each individual piece of armor, with an excerpt taken from the study called "Use the Sword 101"

Today we look at the fifth piece or armor, which is: And take the helmet of salvation,

So what is this helmet and why do we have to put it on?

Notice that it says to take the helmet of salvation. The original meaning is more then just taking. It means to "receive" or "accept" .

Salvation is not something we just take, it first has to be given to or offered to us.

  • Eph 2:8-9 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

  • Sure you may be saved, but have you accepted Jesus' death on the cross as payment for ALL your sins, or do you try and pay for some of them yourself?
    What do I mean?

    Maybe you try to do things to be accepted by God and think that God has not forgiven you or will not forgive you unless you do something first.
    Maybe you will give a little extra this Sunday as payment for your sins. Or maybe you will go to church as payment for your sins.
    Some will even do things in the church or even go out in the mission field because they want to be accepted by God.

    If you try and do ANYTHING other then believe that Jesus paid for all your sins on the cross, then you are saying that Jesus' sacrifice was not enough to pay for your sins.
