I Tim 3:1-2
1 This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;
If you listen to the news, read the paper, or read the news on the Internet then you already know about the story of a man who wants to be the first gay bishop.
The sad news it that he was voted as a bishop by a 62-45 vote, that's over half who represent the church say that this is ok.
There are a few things wrong with this and though I don't get caught up in politics, this is not politics but rather a man who is to represent God.
One of the qualifications of being a bishop as mentioned in today's devotional verses is the husband of one wife.
It doesn't say the husband of one husband, or the boyfriend of another man. Also as I read a little about this situation I also discovered that he has been married and divorced.
Once again it scripture says the husband of one wife. That doesn't mean one at a time.
I have been asked before if I would like to be a pastor or elder. The question is not would I like to, but can I according to scripture. I have been married and divorced and I am re-married so I can't be a pastor or even an elder in the church.
I am forgiven for my sins, but this is evidence of the consequences of sin.
Maybe the Lord wanted me to be a pastor or elder, but I messed up.
But back to the so-called gay bishop, you may think that I am being to hard but let's read one more passage that make this whole situation very clear.
Romans 1:26-27 26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
This man is representing God as condoning a homosexual lifestyle.
Whether you like it or not, being gay is a sin, not a way of life.
1 Cor 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
These are truly the last days.
2 Tim 3:1-5 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
