5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week
with God
Acts 17:11
These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
If you think about it, when you spend time at church on Sunday you are spending about an hour and a half with the Lord. This includes time of worship and time in His word as the pastor teaches.
Now if you go to a home group or midweek bible study there's another hour or so that you are listen to someone teach God's word.
But the question I have is how much time do you spend in the word so that God can speak to you one on one?
We devout one or two hours a week listening to someone else teach God's word, but how do you know if what you are being taught it true or not? Have you checked it out for yourself?
Think about your favorite song. You know all the words and can sing it at any time. But when someone starts to sing your favorite song, and they get the words wrong, doesn't that make you a little mad. You just want to stop them and say, "No the song goes like this."
It's the same when you listen to teaching, unless you read God's word you don't know if the words are right or not.
A lot of churches now have overheads and PowerPoint presentations each Sunday, which includes the scripture.
Does this stop you from bringing your bible? If it does how do you know what they put up on the screen is right or not.
Now I'm not saying that churches are out to deceive you, and misspelling and words to get left out by mistake.
But then there are church and/or cults that totally pervert the word of God. The words they say seem right, but to someone who knows God's word, they know that they are singing a different tune.
So the only way to tell is by being in the word daily. So what if it takes you two years to read through the bible, as long as your consistent it doesn't matter how long it takes. I know of some pastor who will read through the bible at least twice in a year. I don't have that much time and it takes me about a year to read through the bible, give or take a month or two.
So check out every teaching you hear or read, no matter how famous or popular the teacher/pastor may be or even how eloquent he may speak. After all when you are before God, He will not ask if you believed the pastor, but if you believed His word.
The only way to truly say yes is to read it.
