Phil 3:13 (NLT)

No, dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,

How many of us seem to have things from our past that just wont let go?
How many of us look back at our past remembering those "Old Times"?
Although sometimes it may seem hard, but reading today's devotional verse, we are instructed to stop looking at our past and look forward to our future in heaven with Jesus Christ.

Think about it, if you spend too much time looking into the rearview mirror as you are driving, you wont see what's ahead and you can crash or get off course.
Sometimes as we drive we see road signs to restaurants or other things, as we drive we keep looking back at that sign and wonder if we should go back instead of heading to our destination.
We wonder of that road sign is true and want they are advertising is worth getting off track for.
We do the same in our Christian walk; we see commercials on TV trying to make us go places we really shouldn't be going, or watching shows that we shouldn't be watching.
Even in the grocery store there are always paperback books of the latest best sellers being advertised, most of these books we shouldn't even give a second glance or pick up. But we do, and as we are enticed with the sultry words in these books, we get off track and head back towards the world.
We can even allow things like TV, or movies, or magazines, and even books to get us off course from reading God's word everyday.

Simply put, we need to stop looking at the things this world has to offer, and keep our eyes on where we are headed.
Also when you look back at your past and think about those "good times" that also hinders your walk, because now you are bring old baggage on your journey.

So what are we to do with all of these things? Leave them at the foot of the cross, because that's where Jesus paid the price for all your past mistakes, mess-ups and sins.

  • Matt 11:30 "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

  • Jesus took it all on the cross, stop trying to climb up on the cross and take them back.
