2 Peter 2:1-3 (NLT)
1 But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach their destructive heresies about God and even turn against their Master who bought them. Theirs will be a swift and terrible end. 2 Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of them, Christ and his true way will be slandered. 3 In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction is on the way.
There are so many churches out there that proclaim to be Christian, but they teach a false Christ.
What do I mean by that? They teach a christ that is not God in the flesh, and some even teach that Jesus was the brother of Lucifer.
How do they do this?
Because of false teaching, or not teaching the bible in it's context.
Why do people listen to them? Because they don't check out God's word themselves, but take another mans word for the interpretation.
That's why it is so important to read the bible everyday, and not just read it, but study it everyday too.
In the very beginning in the book of Acts, it speaks of the believers checking out what the Apostles were telling them to make sure it was true.
Acts 17:11-12 (NLT)11 And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul's message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to check up on Paul and Silas, to see if they were really teaching the truth. 12 As a result, many Jews believed, as did some of the prominent Greek women and many men.
Just because we now have the complete bible (Old Testament & New Testament) doesn't mean you should take what someone tells you it says.
No matter what church you are in, you should be checking out that what you are being taught is correct and true. If not, bring it to the pastor and the elders and let them know.
Even in the weekly bible study I do here on the Internet, I encourage everyone to check out what I'm teaching.
After all you shouldn't put your trust of salvation in any man, unless he is perfect like Jesus is. But then no man is perfect except Jesus!
