with God

Prov 12:13-14 (NLT)

13 The wicked are trapped by their own words, but the godly escape such trouble.

14 People can get many good things by the words they say; the work of their hands also gives them many benefits.

"I'll make sure I get right on that." or "I'll do that for you tomorrow."
Some simple words we say to others. But how often do we follow through?
If you have no intention of doing something for someone, just say so.
It's better to be honest, then to be a liar.

Jesus gave an example of this.

  • Matt 21:28-31 28 "But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, 'Son, go, work today in my vineyard.' 29 "He answered and said, 'I will not,' but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 "Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, 'I go, sir,' but he did not go. 31 "Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said to Him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.

  • The first son was rebellious but repented; the second son was just self-seeking and didn't follow through with his words.

But then sometimes it's better to do something for someone before they even have a chance to ask.
Husbands, try taking out the trash before your wife asks you to, and if you really want to shock her (and make her happy) do the dishes or even the laundry.

Wives, take the car out and have it washed, and fill the gas tank with gas, or find something your husband would never even think of asking you to do, and do it for him.
He will also be shocked and happy too.

Little ways of thinking of others before they can think of themselves, are what the Lord wants us to do for one another. They are called acts of love, and you love your spouse don't you?

Now one step further, try doing something for the Lord before he even asks you to.
How? Go search out someone in need, and then do for him or her.

  • Matt 25:37-40 37 "Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 'When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 'Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' 40 "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'

  • If you read this parable of Jesus all the way through, you will notice that they were not asked to do anything for someone else, they just did it.

So put on your Nikes and just DO IT!
