2 Tim 2:19 (NLT)

But God's truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his", and "Those who claim they belong to the Lord must turn away from all wickedness."

We all know those who claim to be Christian but are not. You know, those who live like hell, never go to church, use the Lord's name in vain, and so on.
But then there are those in the church who are Christian, but still hang onto sin.
They will listen to songs of the world that glorify sin, or watch TV shows that also condone sin, or read gossip magazines to find out what going on in Hollywood. Some even go as far as living out of wedlock with someone.
Now these all may very well be real believers in Jesus Christ, but God says in today's devotional verse, "Those who claim they belong to the Lord must turn away from all wickedness."

Notice it doesn't say, some, or the things you think are bad or wrong. But rather, all, meaning all
So why is it important for us to turn from all wickedness?
Well why would anyone want to turn to Jesus if they see all the Christians living the same lifestyle as they are? Remember when you accepted Jesus, you did because you where tired of the life you were living and you wanted something better. You knew you were a sinner and wanted to be set free from those sins.
Well, if the world sees us just like them, then why should they turn to Jesus? After all, if they did then it would just be another fad with no real substance and no real change in their lives.
If I went to church and saw everyone smoking and drinking and having sex and telling dirty jokes, I wouldn't want anything to do with Jesus because I wanted to be set free from those things.
Well when we continue in our sins that's just what the world sees, a bunch of hypocrites who can say someone's name but no change in their lives.

So this week and the rest of your time here on the earth, show the world what a real Christian life is like. It's nothing like the world, and if any part of your life is like the world's, then you must put it next to the word of God and find out if it's something you really should be doing or involved with!
