with God

Luke 22:17-20

17 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, "Take this and divide it among yourselves; 18 "for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes." 19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

We all know this as the Lord's Supper or communion, where we partake of the blood and body of Jesus in remembrance of what He did on the cross for us.
This was something new for the Jews, because before this, they would eat the Passover in remembrance of what God did for the children of Israel, and how He delivered them from the bondage they were in, in Egypt.
So as the children of Israel celebrate the Passover each year remembering what God had done for them (and they still do to this day).
We should also partake of the Lord's Supper or communion remembering that Jesus delivered us from the bondage of sin that we were in.

Also something to think about was, this was for the children of Israel, outsiders could partake also who where not Jews, but there were certain things they had to do first.
But communion is for all believers, not just the Jews, and there are certain things that you must do before you partake of communion also. What are they? Simply believing in Jesus and Jesus being your Lord and Savior.
If not then I would encourage you not to partake of communion.

  • 1 Cor 11:27-30 27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.

  • And if you do want to partake of communion then accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It's not hard, because Jesus did the hard part on the cross.
