John 8:36
"Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
The setting: You are sitting in a prison cell.
Why: For murder.
Unusual action: The prison guard comes and opens the door and says you are free to leave.
You ask: "Why, who said I could go free?"
The response: "The one you committed the crime against."
An even more unusual actions: You just sit there saying, "I am unworthy to leave." and never leave the prison cell.
Sound ridicules doesn't it?
But we do the same things as Christians everyday.
Jesus Christ has set us free from all our sins; He has opened the door and tells us we no longer need to be trapped in our old life. But we say, "I am unworthy" or "I'm trapped" or "stuck in these sins"
We need to understand that we are unworthy, but that's where grace comes in. By the grace of God we are not receiving the sentence we deserve for our sins, and what is that sentence? Death and separation from God.
We have committed many sins over our lifetime, and when we came to Jesus and asked forgiveness for our sins, He forgave us. But not only forgave us but He also set us free from continuing in our sins.
The door is wide open, will you step through, or will you stay there continuing in your sins?
