Psalms 2:1-12

1 Why do the nations rage,
And the people plot a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,
3 "Let us break Their bonds in pieces
And cast away Their cords from us."
4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh;
The LORD shall hold them in derision.
5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath,
And distress them in His deep displeasure:
6 "Yet I have set My King
On My holy hill of Zion."
7 "I will declare the decree:
The LORD has said to Me,
'You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8 Ask of Me, and I will give You
The nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth for Your possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron;
You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.' "
10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings;
Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear,
And rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,
And you perish in the way,
When His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

Look at verse 7 "I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You."
Does this verse sound familiar?

Matt 3:17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

This was God talking when Jesus was baptized.

Now look at verse 8 "Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession."

Jesus knew the word of God, the Old Testament. And this verse was written about Him.
But Satan also knows the word of God.
Satan offered the world to Jesus before it was to be given to Him.

  • Matt 4:8-9 8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me."

  • At this time it was Satan's to give as he willed. But Jesus wanted His inheritance from the Father, GOD. Not the father of lies, Satan.

  • Matt 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.' "

  • Today as a believer, you too are a child of God, and we all have an inheritance.

  • Heb 9:15 (NLT) That is why he is the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, so that all who are invited can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.

  • Today, don't sell yourself short because you don't see things being done when you want them to, or how you want them to. God knows what He's doing, and in His time and in His will, it will come to pass.
