1 Kings 5:7

So it was, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, for He has given David a wise son over this great people!

A parent loves nothing more then to hear words of praise for their children from other people.
In today's devotional verse, king Hiram has sent his people to speak with king Solomon after his father, king David had died. King Solomon's response was that he wanted to build God's temple and today's devotional verse was king Hiram's first response.
You see the reason king Solomon had a heart to do this was because his father, king David had taught him about the Lord.
If you read throughout the Old Testament there are many times you will read:

  • 1 Kings 15:26 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin.

  • Meaning that these kings were not teaching their children about the Lord, therefore their children where evil just like they were.
So next time someone say something bad about your child, stop and think about the things you are teaching him or her. Are you teaching them of the Lord by being a living example, or are you teaching them the things of the world by your example.
