with God

Luke 11:1

Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples."

We give the disciples such a hard time because of all the mistakes they seemed to make. But we forget that the things they did and said are there to teach us.
Take today's devotional verse for example.
We all know this verse as leading into what's called the Lord's Prayer. But did you notice something here that was asked of Jesus, or should I say not asked of Jesus?

They didn't ask Jesus to teach them how to heal or cast out demons, or how to preach. No they wanted to know how to pray.
Why?
Because being with Jesus for three years they knew that all He was able to do was because of the time He spent in prayer with the Father.
Just read about it in the four gospels. Many times we read.

  • Luke 6:12 Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

  • Think about it, all night just praying and speaking with God. What would you say this whole time.
I don't think that's the right question, what it really should be is, "What would the Father say to you?"

Jesus was able to do some awesome things because He spent a lot of time in prayer. What do you think you'll be able to do?

I guess you'll never know until you try it!
