1 Tim 2:15

Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.

I love my wife very much, so please don't think that today's devotional is to poke fun at her.

Over a year ago we had our first baby girl. This was my wife's first child and being a Christian she reads the bible everyday.
Well one day she ran across this verse and got so excited and said to me, "See I will not have pain with this baby" meaning labor pains.
I smiled at her, and let her know that this verse was referring to a woman not dieing while giving birth to a child and not what she thought it meant.
It was cute but still it was a wrong interpretation of God's word.
So as you are reading the bible, let me give you a few guidelines to help you understand what a verse is saying.

First and most important you should pray and ask the Lord to guide you as you read.

Second, you should be able to find other verses in the bible that back up what you think it is saying, if not then;

Third, seek the wisdom of your pastor or an elder in the church, or someone you know studies the bible. You can also e-mail me with your question.
Also you can read several commentaries, which will help guide you also. I would encourage you to ask your pastor which commentaries are good because some are not.

So read and study God's word and don't get discouraged if you get stuck on a passage.
Just seek help.
I know I do.
