5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week
with God
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
New Years Eve, what will you do tonight?
Reading today's devotional verse you may think you know where I'm going with this "Be sober" , yes I would like to warn you about going out and partying and getting drunk. But that's not what the warning is this last day of the year.
These are the Last Days before Jesus takes His church home to heaven. We know this because of what the bible says and all that's happening in this world these days. Not the normal wars and famines we have heard about, but marriages breaking up so much more these days, Christians compromising or self-seeking for their own pleasure twisting the word of God or ignoring it for their own fleshly pleasures? Gossip and backbiting in the church, even hatred and bitterness towards other Christians.
"So is that the warning" you may be thinking?
No the warning is this, "your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."
Is it just me, or are the attacks of satan getting worse and worse upon God's children and the churches?
I know personally I have been attacked severely spiritually this last year, because satan does not want God's word going out.
I'm nobody special or fantastic, just God's vessel being used by the Lord willingly. But still satan wants to destroy any Christian who proclaims the gospel.
Why if we are just vessels.
Think of it this way. A cup may not be that great looking or may even be a paper cup, but as long as someone can drink out of it, it is a useful vessel. But if that cup is broken or destroyed it can no longer hold water and it's useless.
So it is with Christians, we may be ugly vessels, gold goblets, or simple paper cups, but people still get living water (God's word) from us. So satan tries to destroy us because he doesn't want us sharing the gospel.
You may have heard this a million times, but Jesus is coming back very, very soon, and satan is seeking to destroy as many as he can to turn them away from the Lord, or stop them from sharing the gospel with others.
But we have a promise from God that we can all taken encouragement in.
Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'
So remember this coming year, the attacks may get more severe, but God is with us and will strengthen us. God is the One Who will uphold us with His righteous right hand!
What a word of comfort we should remember for the year to come!
