Matt 27:50-53 (NLT)
50 Then Jesus shouted out again, and he gave up his spirit. 51 At that moment the curtain in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, 52 and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead 53 after Jesus' resurrection. They left the cemetery, went into the holy city of Jerusalem, and appeared to many people.
Have you ever seen a scary movie? Whether it's an old Frankenstein or Dracula movie or any of the current ones out today.
Have you ever noticed that they are always about someone coming back from the dead?
But I bet that you may have never noticed that this was in the bible also.
But the ones one who rose from the dead here in the book of Matthew were nothing like what the scary movies portray them to be.
In the scary movies they come back to life to kill, but here they come back to life to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, proving once again that Jesus is the Son of God come in the flesh to die for our sins and rise from the dead.
But you know what else, it's going to happen again, that's right those who are dead (or asleep as the scriptures puts it) will rise from the dead.
1 Thess 4:16-18 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Just think about it, your family and friends who are Christians and have died will rise from the dead, and we will meet them in the air with Jesus to spend eternity with Him in heaven.
So the world sees this as a scary thing and they even pervert the word of God with these types of movies. But we as Christians do not have to fear for we have a hope in the rising from the dead that we will be with our loved ones forever in heaven with the one who conquered death and the grave, Jesus!
Rev 21:4-5 "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful."
