5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week

with God

Psalms 91:1-6 (NLT)

1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 This I declare of the LORD:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I am trusting him.
3 For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from the fatal plague.
4 He will shield you with his wings.
He will shelter you with his feathers.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor fear the dangers of the day,
6 nor dread the plague that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.

There seems to be a lot of fear these days in the USA. Fear of terrorist attacks. Fear of anthrax attacks and fear of even opening your mail.

I watched a TV show with interviews with people and the things they currently fear with all that's happening in the USA.
There were answers for these fears, but they were the world's answers. There was no comfort in the things that were said, only answers on how to cope with your fears.

As I watched this I wanted so badly for someone to stand up and say, "I know the cure for your fears, and the cure is in Jesus Christ!"
But to my disappointment, no one stood to reveal the truth.

Maybe you are one who fears at this time. I would encourage you to read today's devotional verses again and know that the Lord is God and that He is in control!

God also says:

  • Psalms 56:11 In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

  • What can man do to me? Think about it, what can man do to you?
Sure we can be bombed and killed, we can be infested with anthrax and die, but as Paul says.

  • 2 Cor 5:8 (NLT) Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.

  • It would almost be a blessing, because we would go to heaven and not have to worry any more. But I said almost. I would rather be in heaven right now, but I know that there are many who don't know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, so for their sakes, I would rather remain here so they too can go to heaven. Not that I am anyone special, I only have a desire that none would perish but that all would come to repentance, because it's the Lord who puts this desire in me.

So why we are still here, pray for the lost and take rest in the Lord.
If you have a problem with fear, or know someone who does, I would encourage you to print today's devotional verses and hang them in a place that you can turn to and read. Allow the Lord be your comfort and peace in these times, or any time!
