5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week

with God

Mark 6:31-32

31 And He said to them, "Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. 32 So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.

Don't you just love Saturdays and Sundays. You can sleep in because you don't have to go to work and you can rest and get refreshed ready for Monday.
What, you don't feel rested by Monday morning?
Do you seem to be more tired after a weekend?
We all know one of Gods commandments is:

  • Ex 20:8-11 8 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

  • We here in the USA don't seem to really know how to rest. We go on vacation for a week, and come back needing a vacation from our vacation.
We work hard and play hard, but what about resting?
Now I don't want to go overboard on the Sabbath day and what it means to rest.
But I do want to tell you that you don't have to go out and do something every weekend.
Try spending a little quite time with your family at home or in a park, just relaxing.
How about reading a book together or watching a good movie curled up on the sofa and maybe even falling asleep in the middle of the movie, together!

Believe me, you won't miss out on anything if you do rest like the Lord said to do one day a week.
In fact, you may be a better person at work because you will be rested and refreshed as the Lord intended the day of rest to be. In fact before God gave the Ten Commandments, the children of Israel never took a day off.

So let me encourage you to go to church with your family this Sunday, praise and worship the Lord together, then spend the rest of the day with your family just taking it easy.
Your boss will see a difference, your family will and so will you.

  • Psalms 37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
