Matt 5:14-16

14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 "Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

There was a mass e-mail that went out asking people to go outside after the 9/11 attack at 7:00 PM and to light a candle.
This was a nice gesture after all that has happened, and please understand that I am not against this at all. But I think there is something that the USA and even the world is missing here.
You see, by 7:30 or 8:00 that same Friday night, most, if not all the candles were burned out or blown out by those who had lite them.
But we as Christians are called by Jesus to be a light to the world.
Have you been a light to the world lately or have you been hiding the light of Jesus Christ that's in you.
How so you may ask?
Does your life style reflect that of Jesus in your life or the world?
When or if someone where to find out that you were a Christian, would they be shocked?
Do you invite people to lunch or the movies and not to church?
Do you dress and talk just like your non-Christian friends?
When someone is in need, do they come to you and ask you to pray for them and/or the situation?
Yesterday's devotional, I had asked all to copy Jesus' words of salvation (which was included in the devotional) and e-mail it out. Did you, or did you just forward the e-mail you got about lighting a candle?
This nation doesn't need to light a candle, but allow Jesus to light up their life with His presence in their heart.

I believe God is calling the nation to repent of its sins and not just to call upon His name because it's in need of help.

This week I have been examining my own life, and I know there are things I have been doing where I really need to repent.
I have not always been showing the light of Jesus Christ in my life, and that is the biggest sin I need to repent of.
Yes this nation needs to repent, and it needs to start in the church.
We have allowed the world to remove God from our schools, our courthouses, and even our homes by allowing TV and Movies to take over our time instead of being in His word.
I would encourage you to examine your lifestyle lately, and get on your knees and bow your heart before the Lord and seek His forgiveness.
Terrorists have killed at least 2000 people on 9/11, but sin is killing or nation.
Only Jesus can bring our nation back to life, but first we must turn to Him and ask Him too!

  • John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

  • Now that's a light that wont burn out in an hour.
