Prov 6:6-11 (NLT)

6 Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and be wise! 7 Even though they have no prince, governor, or ruler to make them work, 8 they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter. 9 But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? I want you to learn this lesson: 10 A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest-- 11 and poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.

As you read this today you may be thinking, "I have a job, and I work hard all day so this doesn't apply to me."
Think again my friend, just as God has put it in the heart of ants to work hard for their food. So has God put in our hearts to work hard also for the crown of life.
What's the crown of life you may ask?

  • James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

  • But there are other crowns too; here is an example of another one.

  • 2 Tim 4:8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

  • But the Lord admonishes us to work hard to keep these crowns, just as the ants do for their food.

  • Rev 3:11 (NLT) Look, I am coming quickly. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown.

  • You can only hold on to something by working for it.
Think of your car, in order to keep your car and make the payments and even put gas in it you have to work for it.
So it is with our walk with the Lord, but don't get me wrong, it's not that we have to work to keep our salvation.

  • Eph 2:8-10 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

  • Jesus did that work on the cross, but the work we do is to help others and to share the gospel or good news of Jesus Christ with others.

  • John 6:28-29 28 Then they said to Him, "What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?" 29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."

  • Finally, how do you know exactly what the work your suppose to be doing is? Pray!

  • Acts 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

  • And here is your answer from Jesus Himself.

  • Mark 16:15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

  • So starting today, be like the ant and do the work the Lord has set in your heart, whole-heartedly!
